After serving in the US Army in Vietnam, Nelson returned to college, and then began his journey in the Financial Service Industry when he was recruited by the Occidental Life, Honolulu Agency. He continued his training at the Home Office, Los Angles, CA - attaining both a life insurance and securities license. Throughout his years as agent and Retirement Wealth Advisor, Nelson has completed and earned numerous professional designations from the American College and the American Society of CLU & ChFC, the Chartered Life Underwriter, Chartered Financial Consultant and the Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow LUTCF. After moving to Kauai, followed by the 1992 Hurricane INKI disruption that created over 3 Billion dollars in damages to the Island of Kauai’s economy, now he found himself unemployed - Nelson sought  and earned The Charted Federal Employee Benefits Consultant designation (ChFEBC℠) and as an independent agent, was hired to provide educational FERS and CSRS employment benefits and retirement workshops for federal employees, on the Island of Oahu at the Honolulu Federal Building. He has earned the Certified Financial Fiduciary® (CFF) designation. Joining a growing group of financial professionals who have earned the Certified Financial Fiduciary® designation and clearly demonstrate how they practice a fundamental obligation to always put their clients’ best interest. website: www.nationalcffasociation.org His company Secretario Financial, LLC, is a member of The American Financial Education Alliance (AFEA), one of the fastest growing non-profit financial wellness programs in the the country!  As an IRS approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, AFEA’s mission is to inform and empower Americans to take control of their finances by providing comprehensive financial education in communities nationwide. Nelson maintains memberships in the National Association of Investment Financial Advisors (NAIFA), a Qualifying & Life Member MDRT, and the National Ethic Association (NEA) that advocates for ethical business practices in the financial services www.ethics.net  His current practice has been sponsoring educational workshops on all four major islands for retirees and future seniors.  These workshops focus on: Social Security, Medicare, The 2019 SECURE ACT, Retirement Tax Updates, and complex subjects such as how to preserve their assets, reduce taxes, diversifying their portfolio for growth and stability and create more income for their retirement. Helping clients “Live Well” during their retirement years by developing income strategies they will not outlive. Knowledge is power, but only if you use it!  Nelson has always been active within the community - soon to be a lifetime member with the Honolulu Elks Club 616, he has served as an elected Councilman for Kauai County, past president of The Kauai Association of the Life Underwriters, The Kapa’a Rotary Club, the Kaua’i Shriners Club and The Boy Scouts of America Kauai District Chair.  Nelson currently serves as a Director for The Kauai Filipino Chamber of Commerce.  Nelson and his wife Vikki enjoy traveling, ballroom dancing, and are blessed spending time with their 3 college graduated daughters, 5 grandchildren, and a weekly round of golf with his youngest daughter Rachel who is also a licensed agent at Secretario Financial, LLC.
